Stitch marker, yarn needle.
Necklace measures 24” (61 cm) around neck opening
GAUGE: 6 ch = 4” (10 cm) with 2 strands of yarn held together. Gauge is not critical for this project.
NOTES
1. Two strands are held together to make the thick central Neck Chain. Then a single strand is used to work chain-loops with ends attached to the Neck Chain.
2. Ends of the Neck Chain are tied together and two flowers sewn to the piece to complete the necklace.
NECKLACE
Neck Chain:
With 2 strands of yarn held together, ch 35. Cut 1 strand, leaving a tail to weave in, and continue working with 1 strand only.
Row 1:
Slip st in first 5 ch, ch 22, skip next 14 ch of Neck Chain, slip st in next ch, place a marker in the 7th ch just skipped, ch 18, skip next 9 ch of Neck Chain, slip st in next ch; leave last 5 ch unworked—1 ch-22 loop, and 1 ch-18 loop. Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Do not turn piece. Hold piece with Neck Chain at lower edge.
Row 2:
Draw up a loop of yarn (1 strand only) in marked ch of Neck Chain, remove marker, ch 5, slip st in 18th ch of ch-22 loop, ch 11, slip st in 6th ch of ch-18 loop. Fasten off and weave in ends, but do not weave in ends of Neck Chain. Neck Chain ends are used later to join Neck Chain into a circle.
SMALL FLOWER
With 1 strand, ch 4; join with slip st in first ch to form a ring.
Round 1:
Ch 1, 9 hdc in ring; join with slip st in beginning ch. Fasten off, leaving a long tail.
LARGE FLOWER
With 1 strand, ch 4; join with slip st in first ch to form a ring.
Round 1:
Ch 2, 9 dc in ring; join with slip st in beginning ch. Fasten off, leaving a long tail.
FINISHING
Using tails, tie ends of Neck Chain together, wrapping tails around to hide knot. Use tails to sew flowers to necklace at end of ch-18 loop. Weave in any remaining ends.
