Red Heart® Super Saver®: 1 skein each 706 Perfect Pink A, 3946 Razzle B and 400 Grey Heather CSusan Bates® Crochet Hooks: 4mm [US G-6]
Yarn needle; 12” (30.5 cm) heartshaped foam wreath; 16” (40.6 cm) length 3/16” (4.8 mm) dowel rod; tacky glue; rust-proof straight pins
GAUGE: 4 sts = 1” (2.25 cm) CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain gauge.
Pattern Note
For easier wrapping, make a 2½” (6.4 cm) ball of each color to wrap around wreath.
WREATH
Push dowel rod through the wreath diagonally as shown in photo before wrapping yarn around wreath. Remove dowel rod. Wrap yarn around wreath alternating colors A,B andC. When changing colors, lay a 2” (5 cm) end of the next color next to end of previous color and
wrap next color over both ends. This will help keep yarn from unraveling. After wrapping last color, weave in loose ends and trim.
Small Heart(Make 6 with A and 4 with B)
With A or B, ch 2.
Round 1: 9 sc in 2nd ch from hook. (9 sc)
Round 2: (Slip st, ch 4, tr, dc) in next st, dc in next st, hdc in next st, sc in next st, 3 sc in next st, sc in next st, hdc in next st, dc in next st, (dc, tr, ch 4, slip st) in next st.Fasten off. (15 sts)
Bunting
With A , make two chains long enough to drape from right to left side of wreath. Attach the chains with straight pins. Weave in loose ends of yarn. Alternating colors, sew 4 small hearts to each chain.
Large Heart for Arrow (make 2)
With A, ch 2.
Round 1: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. (6 sts)
Round 2: 2 sc in next 5 sts, 3 sc in last st. (13 sts)
Round 3: (Slip st, ch 3, 2 tr) in next st, dc in next 2 sts, hdc in next st, sc in next 2 sts, 3 sc in next st, sc in next 2 sts, hdc in next st, dc in next 2 sts, (2 tr, ch 3, sl st) in next st. Fasten off. (19 sts)
FINISHING
Arrow
Insert the dowel through wrapped wreath. Add a small amount of glue in each hole to hold dowel in place. With right side facing out, sew remaining two small hearts together, leaving a small opening at the bottom of the heart to insert dowel. With right side facing out, sew two large hearts together, leaving a small opening at the top of heart to insert dowel. Add a small amount of glue to each end of dowel. Insert upper end into opening on joined large hearts. Insert lower end into opening on joined small hearts.
Hanger
Cut 14” (35.5 cm) of each A,B and C yarn. Braid yarn and attach to the top of Styrofoam heart with straight pins. Weave in loose threads.
