Hanging Luminaries

RED HEART® “Eco-Cotton™ Blend”: 1 ball any color (1 ball makes 2 luminaries). Shown Luminaries used 1373 Linen Marl and 1645 Moss.
Crochet Hook: 5 mm [US H-8].
Yarn needle, 5”, 6” or 7” metal or plastic rings, quart jars, craft sand, tea light candles.

Directions are for quart size jars. Changes for 2 quart size are in parentheses.
Gauge is not important for this project.
LUMINARIES
Ch 5, join with a slip st to form a ring.
Round 1 (Right Side): Ch 3 (counts as dc), work 15 dc in ring, join with slip st in top of beginning ch-3 – 16 sts.
Round 2: Ch 3, dc in same st as join, 2 dc in each st around, slip st in top of beginning ch to join – 32 sts.
Round 3: Ch 1, sc in same st as join, *ch 4, skip next st, sc in next st; repeat from * around to last st, ch 1, dc in first sc (counts as ch-4 space, sc).
Rounds 4-17 (24): Ch 1, working over dc, sc in ch-4 space, *ch 4 (5), sc in next ch-4 space; repeat from * around to last ch-4 space, ch 1, dc in first sc (counts as ch-4 space, sc).
Fasten off.

Table Top Luminary
– Make a chain long enough to fit around top of jar plus extra to tie into a bow.
– Fasten off.
– Weave chain through ch-4 spaces 2 rows before Round 15. Insert jar in Luminary, pull chain to gather around top of jar and tie ends into a bow.

Hanging Luminary
Ring Row: Holding ring to back of ch-4 (5) space, work over it together with ch-4 (5) space, [ch 1, 5 sc in next ch-4 (5) space] around to last ch-4 (5) space, ch 1, dc in first sc – 80 sts.
– Make desired number of chains, each the desired length of hanging Luminary.
– Fasten off.
– Insert jar in Luminary. Position chains evenly around Ring Row so jar is level when hanging. Knot 1 end of each chain in ch 1-space and around ring securely. Knot opposite ends together.
