- Susan Bates® Crochet Hook: 10mm [US N-15]

- 2½” (6.5 cm) piece of heavy cardboard or optional pompom maker
Combine Mixology Solids and Swirl for this crochet hat with unique style. Free pattern for two sizes means it will fit younger ages and be perfect for gift giving!
Gauge/Tension: GAUGE: 10 sc = 6” (15 cm); 2 rows = 1½” (4 cm) with A. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.
Directions are for size Small. Changes for size Large are in parentheses.
Hat measures 18 (20)” [45.5 (51) cm] circumference at band.
Special Technique
Join with sc = Place a slip knot on hook, insert hook in indicated stitch, yarn over and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw
through both loops on hook.
HAT
With A, ch 4; join with slip st in first ch to form a ring.
Round 1 (right side): Ch 1, 7 sc in ring—7 sc. Do not join. Place marker for beginning of round and move marker up as each
round is completed.
Round 2: Work 2 sc in each sc around—14 sc.
Round 3: *Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc; repeat from * around—21 sc.
Round 4: Sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc; repeat from * around—28 sc.
Round 5: Sc in each sc around.
Round 6: *Sc in next 13 sc, 2 sc in next sc; repeat from * once—30 sc.
Rounds 7–9: Sc in each sc around.
Size Large only:
Round 10: Work *2 sc in next sc, sc in next 9 sc; repeat from * around—33 sc.
Both Sizes:
Rounds 10–12 (11–13): Sc in each sc around.
Round 13 (14): Sc in each sc around; join with slip st in first sc. Fasten off.
Band
Round 1 (right side): With right side facing, join B with sc in first sc, sc in each sc around—30 (33) sc. Do not join. Place
marker for beginning of round and move marker up as each round is completed.
Round 2: Sc in each sc around. Do not fasten off.
Brim
Row 1 (right side): Sc in next 17 sc; leave remaining sts unworked, turn—17 sc.
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in first 11 sc; leave remaining sts unworked, turn—11 sc.
Row 3: Ch 1, sc in each sc across, sc in end of row, sc in next unworked st of band, turn—13 sc.
Row 4: Ch 1, sc in each sc across, sc in ends of first 2 rows, slip st in next unworked st of Row 1, turn—15 sc.
Round 5: Skip slip st, sc in next 15 sc, sc in each remaining unworked st of band; join with slip st in first sc. Fasten off.
FINISHING
Pompom
With B, following pompom maker directions, make 2½” (6.5 cm) pompom or make pompom as follows: Wrap yarn
around 2½” (6.5 cm) piece of heavy cardboard (the more wraps, the fuller the pompom). Gently remove wraps from
cardboard. Cut a 12” (30.5 cm) length of B and tie it tightly around center of wraps. Do not cut the ends of this center tie. Cut ends of wraps. Fluff and trim pompom. Use ends of center tie to sew pompom to top of hat Weave in ends.
