Pretty Enough for Easter Hat
Crochet all the little girls a pretty new hat complete with a nicely tied bow. The chevron pattern is crocheted in just one color, with contrast edging that can be changed to coordinate with any outfit. Pattern is given for two sizes.

- RED HEART® With Love: 1 skein each of 1101 Eggshell A and 1704 Bubblegum B
- Susan Bates® Crochet Hook: 5.5mm [US I-9]
- Yarn needle
Additional Supplies Needed:
1 yd (1 m) of ribbon; scissors
GAUGE: 14 sts and 7 rows in dc = 4″ (10 cm). CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size needles/hook to obtain the gauge given
Directions are for size Small Child. Changes for size Large Child are in parentheses.
Hat measures 18 (20)” (45.5 [51 cm]) in circumference
HAT
With A, ch 4; join with a slip st in first ch to form ring.
Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as dc here and throughout), 13 (15) dc in ring; join with a slip st in top of beginning ch-3—14 (16) dc.
Round 2: Slip st between first 2 sts, ch 4 (counts as dc, ch 1), dc in same space, skip next 2 dc, *(dc, ch 1, dc) in space before next dc, skip next 2 dc; repeat from * around; join with a slip st in first ch-1 space—7 (8) ch-1 spaces; 2 dc between ch-2 spaces.
Round 3: Ch 3, (dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in same space, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in each ch-1 space around; join with a slip st in top of beginning ch-3—7 (8) ch-2 spaces; 4 dc between ch-2 spaces.
Round 4: Slip st in next dc, ch 3, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next ch-2 space, dc in next dc, *skip next 2 dc, dc in next dc, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in ch-2 space, dc in next dc; repeat from * around, skip last 2 dc; join with a slip st in top of beginning ch-3—7 (8) ch-2 spaces; 6 dc between ch-2 spaces.
Round 5: Slip st in next dc, ch 3, dc in next dc, *(2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next ch-2 space, dc in each of next 2 dc, skip next 2 dc**, dc in each of next 2 dc; repeat from * around, ending last repeat at **; join with a slip st in top of beginning ch-3—7 (8) ch-2 spaces; 8 dc between ch-2 spaces.
Round 6-11 (13): Slip st in next dc, ch 3, dc in each of next 2 dc, *(dc, ch 2, dc) in next ch-2 space, dc in each of next 3 dc, skip next 2 dc**, dc in each of next 3 dc; repeat from * around, ending last repeat at **; join with a slip st in top of beginning ch-3—7 (8) ch-2 spaces; 8 dc between ch-2 spaces. Fasten off A.
TRIM
Round 1: With right side facing, join B with a slip st in ch-2 space near back seam, ch 1, 3 sc in same space, sc in each of next 3 dc, skip 2 dc, sc in each of next 3 dc**, 3 sc in next ch-2 space; repeat from * around, ending last repeat at **; join with a slip st in first sc—63 (72) sc. Fasten off B.
FINISHING
Weave ribbon evenly through holes made by ch-2 spaces 2-3 rows above the trim. Tie ribbon in a bow near front of hat. Trim ends even.
