Size: About 9” square
Materials: Worsted Weight Cotton: Maroon – 1 oz, 50 yd (30 g, 46 m); Fleck – 1 oz, 50 yd (30 g, 46 m)(Sugar ‘n Cream – Wine, Potpourri Ombre)
Crochet Hook: Size H-8 (5.00 mm)
To Change Colors
Work last stitch before color change to last step, with new color, yo and pull new color through remaining lps on hook. Drop unused color to wrong side. Do not work over unused color.
JOINING WITH SC
When instructed to join with sc, begin with sl knot on hook, insert hook in st or sp indicated, yo and pull up a loop, yo and draw through both loops on hook.
BLOCK A
Rnd 1: (Right Side) With specified color, ch 4, join with sl st to first ch to form ring; ch 5 (counts as first dc and ch 2 now and throughout), [3 dc in ring, ch 2] 3 times, 2 dc in ring; join with sl st to first dc. (12 dc and 4 ch-2 sps)
Rnd 2: Sl st in next ch-2 sp, ch 5, 3 dc in same sp, ch 1, [(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 sp, ch 1] 3 times, 2 dc in first ch-2 sp; join. (24 dc, 4 ch-1 sps and 4 ch-2 sps) Finish off and weave in ends.
BLOCK B
Rnd 1: (Right Side) With first specified color, ch 4, join with sl st to first ch to form ring; ch 5 (counts as first dc and ch 2 now and throughout), 3 dc in ring, with next color, yo and draw through, ch 1, 3 dc in ring, ch 2, 3 dc in ring, with first color, yo and draw through, ch 1, 2 dc in ring; join with sl st to first dc. (12 dc and 4 ch-2 sps)
Rnd 2: Sl st in next ch-2 sp, ch 3, (2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in same sp, ch 1, 3 dc in next ch-sp, with next color, yo and draw through, ch 1, 3 dc in same sp, ch 1, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 sp, ch 1, 3 dc in next ch-2 sp, with first color, yo and draw through, ch 1, 3 dc in same sp, ch 1; join. (24 dc, 4 ch-1 sps and 4 ch-2 sps) Finish off and weave in ends.
DISHCLOTH
Block A – Make 3 Maroon and 2 Fleck.
Block B – Make 4 using Maroon and Fleck.
– Using photo as guide, whipstitch the Blocks together through back loops.
Leaf Stem (Chained Overlay/Tambour)
With right side facing, keeping 18” length of Maroon at back of work, insert hook at base of Leaf, pull up yarn lp from back (hold onto loose end), working diagonally across Fleck block, * insert hook, pull up another lp from back and through lp on hook (slip stitch); rep from * across about ¾ of block. Finish off and weave in ends.
(Alternatively, embroider Leaf Stem.)
Edging
Rnd 1: With right side facing, join Fleck with sl st to any corner ch-sp, ch 5, 3 dc in same sp, 3 dc in next 7 ch-sps, [(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in corner ch-2 sp, 3 dc in next 7 ch-sps] 3 times, 2 dc in first corner ch-2 sp; join with sl st to first dc. (108 dc and 4 ch-2 sps)
Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in same st as joining, sc evenly around, working (sc, ch 2, sc) in corner ch-2 sps; join with sl st to first sc. (116 sc) Finish off and weave in ends.
