#46 Catherine Wheel Ripple Crochet Dishcloth

Designer Kathleen Stuart wrote:  My name is Kathleen Stuart and I learned to crochet when I was ten and have been crocheting and designing crochet ever since.

I started my “career” in crochet in 1991 after reading about crochet designs wanted for a crochet magazine. I was amazed that my first design was accepted! I design as a hobby. My four children are my inspiration for many designs. I love to crochet stuffed animals and toys, along with afghans and other items. I enjoy using whimsy in many of my designs. My designs have been in many crochet magazines and books over the years.

I am a professional member of the Crochet Guild of America and enjoy attending my local chapter, South Bay Crochet. I love the opportunity that I have had to meet many of the crochet “greats” with this group.

I joined the dishcloth challenge for several reasons. The first reason is that I love to make things for charity. The second reason is that I love a challenge!

I live in San Jose, California with my husband, Harold.

I love playing around with stitch patterns. One day I was looking at a pattern called a Catherine’s Wheel and noticed that I could do variations on the theme. I did two variations – one that made the different colors look like rows of polka dots and the other gives the illusion of a ripple. I sold these stitch variations as different sized afghans.  The polka dot variation is in the book : 50 Sensational Crochet Afghans and Throws (Needlecraft Shop) as Happy Cartwheels. The ripple is in the book Quick Stitch Crochet (Needlecraft Shop) as Catherine Wheel Afghan. For the dishcloths, I have changed borders and/or stripe pattern.

Thank you for joining the Dishcloth-a-Day Challenge Kathleen and for sharing your story and talent with us.

Follow me onto dishcloth #47 and the rest of the story…
