We are excited to have Karen Daniel join the Dishcloth-a-Day Challenge.  Karen wrote:  “My son plays Pokemon games on his DS gameboy and he said this looks like the pattern on the body of “Poliwhirl” so that’s how it gets its name. This is my third submission and I love the dishcloth challenge and seeing everyone else’s patterns”.

Size:
About 6½” diameter

Materials:
Worsted Weight Cotton Yarn: White – 1 oz, 48 yds (28 g, 43 m); Black – 1 oz, 48 yds (28 g, 43 m) (Peaches & Crème – White, Black)

Crochet Hook:
Size G-6 (4.25 mm)

JOINING WITH SC

When instructed to join with sc, begin with sl knot on hook, insert hook in st or sp indicated, yo and pull up a loop, yo and draw through both loops on hook.

TO CHANGE COLORS

Work last stitch before color change to last step, with new color yo and pull new color through remaining loops on hook. Drop unused color to wrong side. Do not work over unused color.

DISHCLOTH

Note:
Keep both colors attached to your work, working over unused color.  Be sure to change colors one stitch before the end of the round to create the swirl pattern.

Rnd 1:
(Right Side) Starting at center, with Black, ch 3, sl st in first ch to form ring; ch 1, 8 sc in ring; change color to White. (8 sc) DO NOT JOIN. MARK BEG OF EACH ROUND.

Rnd 2:
With White, 2 sc in each sc around; pick up Black. (16 sc)

Rnd 3:
With Black, [sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc] around, picking up White before ending the round so that White overlaps the previous White round.

Rnd 4:
[Sc in each of next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc] around, picking up Black one st before end of rnd.

Rnd 5:
[Sc in each of next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc] around, picking up White one st before end of rnd.

Rnd 6:
[Sc in each of next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc] around, picking up Black one st before end of rnd.

Rnd 7:
[Sc in each of next 6 sc, 2 sc in next sc] around, picking up White one st before end of rnd.

Rnd 8:
[Sc in each of next 6 sc, 2 sc in next sc] around, picking up Black one st before end of rnd.

Rnd 9:
[Sc in each of next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc] around, picking up White one st before end of rnd.

Rnd 10:
[Sc in each of next 6 sc, 2 sc in next sc] around, picking up Black one st before end of rnd.

Rnd 11:
Sc in each sc around to last 2 sc, sl st in next sc. Finish off and weave in ends.
