Susan Bates® Crochet Hook: 5 mm [US H-8]Yarn needle
GAUGE: 15 sts and 8 rows to 4” (10 cm) in pattern. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge
Throw measures 35” wide x 35” long (89 x 89 cm)
Special Stitches

Cluster: [Yo, insert hook from front to back to front again around the post of next tr, draw up loop, yo and draw yarn through 2 loops on hook] 3 times around the post of same st, yo and draw through all 4 loops on hook. Work cluster loosely.

picot: Ch 4, insert hook from front to back to front again around the post of last hdc made, yo, draw yarn through st and loop on hook (slip st made).
BLANKET

With A, ch 113.

Row 1 (right side): Dc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn—112 dc.

Row 2: Ch 4, *skip next dc, tr in next dc, 3 tr in next dc, tr in next dc, skip next dc; repeat from * across to last st, tr in top of turning ch, turn. Drop A to be picked up later; draw B through loop on hook.

Row 3: With B, ch 1, sc in first tr, skip next tr, *sc in next tr (2nd tr of 5-tr group), Cluster in next tr, sc in next tr**, ch 3, skip next 2 tr; repeat from * across, ending last repeat at **, skip next tr, sc in top of beginning ch-4.

Row 4: Ch 4, 2 tr in first sc, work 5 tr in each ch-3 space across, 3 tr in last sc, turn. Drop B to be picked up later; pick up A and draw through loop on hook.

Row 5: With A, ch 1, sc in each of first 2 tr, *ch 3, skip next 2 tr, sc in next tr (2nd tr of 5-tr group), Cluster in next tr, sc in next tr; repeat from* across, end ch 3, skip next 2 tr, sc in next tr, sc in top of beginning ch-4, turn.
Row 6: Ch 4, work 5 tr in each ch-3 sp across, tr in last sc, turn. Drop A to be picked up later; pick up B and draw through loop on hook.

Rows 7–55: Repeat rows 3–6 (12 times); repeat row 3 once more. Fasten off.
BORDER

Round 1: With right side facing, join A in bottom right-hand corner, ch 3, 2 dc in first row-end dc, *dc evenly across, working 3 dc in each row-end tr and dc in each rowend sc*, (dc, ch 2, dc) in corner st, dc evenly across working 3 dc in each ch-3 space, dc in each sc and Cluster, (dc, ch 2, dc) in corner st; repeat from * to * once, 2 dc in row-end dc, (dc, ch 2, dc) in corner st, dc evenly across bottom edge, working 1 dc between each dc of row 1 to beginning corner, dc in corner st, ch 1, sc in top of beginning ch-3.

Round 2: Ch 3, dc in first corner space, dc in each dc around, working (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in each corner ch-2 space, end with 2 dc in first corner space, ch 1, sc in top of beginning ch-3.

Round 3: Repeat round 2.

Round 4: Ch 3, dc in first corner space, *[ch 1, skip next dc, dc in next dc] across to next corner, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in corner ch-2 space; repeat from* around, ending with 2 dc in first corner space, ch 1, sc in top of beginning ch-3.

Note: Work an extra dc if necessary before corners.Round 5: Ch 3 (counts as hdc, ch 1), hdc in first corner space, picot, ch 1, *hdc between next 2 dc, [ch 1, hdc in next ch-1 space] twice, work picot; repeat from * evenly across to next corner, hdc between next 2 dc, ch 1**, (hdc, ch 1, hdc) in next corner ch-2 space, ch 1; repeat from * around, ending last repeat at **, join with slip st in 2nd ch of beginning ch- 3. Fasten off. Weave in ends.
