RED HEART® Anne Geddes Baby™: 1 ball each in 902 Ladybug A, 112 Night-Night B and 100 Lily C
Susan Bates® Crochet Hook: 4mm [US G-6]
Stitch markers, yarn needle
Cocoon measures 18” [45.5cm] circumference x 20” [51cm] long
GAUGE: 16 hdc = 4” [10cm]; 10 rows = 4” [10cm]. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.
COCOON
Base Circle With B, ch 2.
Round 1: Work 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, slip st in first sc to join – 6 sc.
Round 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in each sc around, slip st in first sc – 12 sc.
Round 3: Ch 1, [sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc] around, slip st in first sc – 18 sc.
Round 4: Ch 1, [sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc] around, slip st in first sc – 24 sc.
Round 5: Ch 1, [sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in nextsc] around, slip st in first sc – 30 sc.
Round 6: Ch 1, [sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in nextsc] around, slip st in first sc – 36 sc.
Round 7: Ch 1, [sc in next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc] around, slip st in first sc – 42 sc.
Round 8: Ch 1, [sc in next 6 sc, 2 sc in next sc] around, slip st in first sc – 48 sc.
Round 9: Ch 1, [sc in next 7 sc, 2 sc in next sc] around, slip st in first sc – 54 sc.
Round 10: Ch 1, [sc in next 8 sc, 2 sc in next sc] around, slip st in first sc – 60 sc.
Round 11: Ch 1, [sc in next 9 sc, 2 sc in next sc] around, slip st in first sc – 66 sc.
Round 12: Ch 1, [sc in 10 sc, 2 sc in next sc] around, slip st in first sc – 72 sc.
Body
Note: Body is worked in continuous rounds. Place marker for beginning of round.
Next Round: Cut B and join A, ch 2 (counts as first hdc), hdc in each st around. Working in continuous rounds, work in hdc until Body measures 20” [51cm] from beginning. Cut A and join C. Work in hdc for 2 more rounds, slip st to first st. Fasten off.
FINISHING
SPOTS (Make 10-12)
Work Rounds 1-5 of Base Circle. Fasten off. Arrange Spots randomly around cocoon and sew in place. Weave in ends.
