RED HEART Gumdrop: 1 ball each of 930 Orange (A) and 620 Cherry (B)
Crochet Hook: 5 mm [US H-8] and 3.75 [US F-5] for size Small (6 mm [US J-10] and 5 mm [US H-8] for size Large)
Yarn needle
Additional Supplies Needed: One 10 mm orange or blue bead for each hat
Directions are given for size Small. Instructions are the same for both sizes. Hook size determines size of hat.
Small hat measures 18” (45.5 cm) in circumference using smaller hooks and gauge.
Large hat measures 20” (51 cm) in circumference using larger hooks and gauge.

shell: 3 dc in same st.
HAT
With larger hook for desired size and A, ch 4, join with a slip st to form a ring.
Round 1: Ch 1, 8 sc in ring; join with a slip st in first sc – 8 sc.
Round 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in each sc around; join with a slip st in first sc – 16 sc.
Round 3: Ch 1, sc in first sc, 2 sc in next sc, *sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc; repeat from * around; join with a slip st in first sc – 24 sc.
Round 4: Ch 1, sc in first sc, *skip next sc, shell in next sc, sc in next sc; repeat from * around; join with a slip st in first sc – 8 shells.
Round 5: Ch 3 (counts as dc here and throughout), dc in same sc, *hdc in next dc, sc in next dc, hdc in next dc**, 2 dc in next sc; repeat from * around, ending last repeat at **; join with a slip st in top of beginning ch-3 – 40 sts.
Round 6: Ch 1, sc in each st around; join with a slip st in first sc – 40 sc.
Round 7: Ch 1, sc in first sc, *skip next sc, shell in next sc, sc in next sc; repeat from * around; skip last sc; join with a slip st in first sc – 13 shells).
Round 8: Ch 3, 2 dc in first sc, *sc in center dc of next shell, shell in next sc; repeat from * around; join with a slip st in top of beginning ch-3.
Round 9: Slip st in next dc, ch 1, sc in same dc, *shell in next sc, sc in center dc of next shell; repeat from * around; join with a slip st in first sc – 13 shells.
Rounds 10-13: Repeat Round 8-9 twice.
Round 14: Ch 3, *hdc in next dc, sc in next dc, hdc in next dc**, dc in next sc; repeat from * around, ending last repeat at **; join with a slip st in top of beg ch-3 – 52 sts.
Round 15: Sc in each st around; join with a slip st in first sc – 52 sc.
Change to smaller hook.
Rounds 16-17: With smaller hook for desired size, ch 1, sc in each sc around; join with a slip st in first sc.
Round 18: Ch 1, (sc, ch 2, sc) in first sc, *skip next sc, (sc, ch 2, sc) in next sc; repeat from * around; join with a slip st in first sc. Fasten off A.
Weave in ends.
FLOWER
Note: Use larger hook for desired size. With 2 strands of B held together as one, ch 5, join with a slip st to form a ring.
Round 1: Ch 1, [sc, ch 3] 8 times in ring; join with a slip st in first sc – 8 ch-3 spaces.
Round 2: Working behind sts in Round 1, ch 1, sc in next space between 2 sc, [ch 5, sc between next 2 sc] 7 times, ch 5; join with a slip st in first sc – 8 ch-5 spaces. Fasten off, leaving a 9” (23 cm) sewing length.
FINISHING
With yarn needle and sewing length, sew Flower to border of Hat through sts of Round 2 of Flower.
With yarn needle and a single strand of B sew bead hole to center of Flower. Weave in ends.
