Victorian Tree Skirt
Celebrate tradition when you make this lovely tree skirt. The hexagon motifs are a great carry-along project while the ruffled border provides interest to the finish.

- RED HEART® Super Saver®: 2 skeins 376 Burgundy A, 1 skein each 316 Soft White B and 633 Dark Sage C
- Susan Bates® Crochet Hook: 5.5mm [US I-9]
- Yarn needle
GAUGE: Hexagon measures 6″ [15 cm] across. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.
Tree Skirt measures 42” [107 cm] in diameter.

dc2tog = [yo and draw up a loop in st or space indicated, yo and draw through 2 loops] twice, yo and draw through all 3 loops on hook.
dc3tog = [yo and draw up a loop in st or space indicated, yo and draw through 2 loops] 3 times, yo and draw through all 4 loops on hook.
sc2tog = [draw up a loop in next st] twice, yo and draw through all 3 loops on hook.
sc3tog = [draw up a loop in next st] 3 times, yo and draw through all 4 loops on hook.

TREE SKIRT
Make 36 hexagons as follows:
With A, ch 5; join with a slip st to form ring.
Round 1: Ch 3, dc2tog in ring (counts as dc3tog), [ch 3, dc3tog in ring] 5 times, ch 3; join with a slip st in top of beginning ch-3.
Round 2: (Slip st, ch 3, dc2tog, ch 3, dc3tog) all in next ch-3 space, ch 3, [(dc3tog, ch 3, dc3tog, ch 3) all in next ch-3 space] 5 times; join in top of ch-3. Fasten off A.
Round 3: Join C in next ch-3 space; ch 3, dc2tog in same space as joining, ch 3, * (dc3tog, ch 3, dc3tog) all in next ch-3 space, ch 3, ** dc3tog in next ch-3 space, ch 3; repeat from * around, end at **; join. Fasten off C.
Round 4: Join B in next ch-3 space; ch 3, 2 dc in same space as joining, * (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) all in next ch-3 space **, [3 dc in next ch-3 space] twice; repeat from * around, end at **; join. Fasten off.
Sew hexagons together as shown in diagram in next page.

Row 1: With right side facing, join B in first ch-2 space of first of 6 hexagons at center of tree skirt; ch 3, work dc2tog over same ch-2 space and next dc, dc in next 11 dc, * work dc3tog over next ch-2 space and seam and next ch-2 space **, dc in next 12 dc; repeat from * to last hexagon, end at **; dc in next 11 dc, dc2tog over next dc and ch-2 space; turn.
Rows 2 and 3: Ch 3, skip first st, dc2tog over next 2 dc, * dc in each dc to one dc before next dc3tog **, work dc3tog over next dc and dc3tog and next dc; repeat from * to last 2 sts, end at **; dc2tog over next dc and next dc2tog; turn.
Row 4: Ch 1, sc2tog over first 2 sts, * sc in each dc to one st before dc3tog **, work sc3tog over next dc and next dc3tog and next dc; repeat from * to last 2 sts, end at **; sc2tog over next dc and dc2tog; turn.
