This crocheted cowl adds a flash of fun to a kid’s style! Everyone loves the way this yarn reflects the flash of a camera or other light at night.
Materials:
RED HEART® Reflective™: 1 ball each 8429 Grey A, and 8704 Neon Pink B
Susan Bates® Crochet Hook: 6mm [US J-10]
Yarn needle
Gauge/Tension: Three (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) shells = 4½” [11.5 cm]; 4 rounds of shells = 3″ [7.5 cm] CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.
Cowl measures about 30″ [76 cm] circumference and 6″ [15 cm] high.
Note
1. Cowl is worked in joined rounds with right side always facing.
2. Yarn color is changed to form stripes.
COWL
With A, ch 80; taking care to not twist ch, join with slip st in first ch to form a ring.
Round 1 (right side): With A, ch 3 (counts as first dc here and throughout), (dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in same ch as join (first shell made), *skip next 3 ch, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next ch; repeat from * to last 3 ch, skip last 3 ch; join with slip st in top of beginning ch-3—Twenty (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) shells.
Round 2: With A, slip st in next dc, (slip st, ch 3, dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next ch-2 space, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in ch-2 space of each remaining shell around; join with slip st in top of beginning ch-3. Fasten off A.
Round 3: With right side facing, draw up a loop of B in ch-2 space of first shell, ch 3, (dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in same ch-2 space, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in ch-2 space of each remaining shell around; join with slip st in top of beginning ch-3. Fasten off B.
Round 4: With right side facing, draw up a loop of A in ch-2 space of first shell, ch 3, (dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in same ch-2 space, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in ch-2 space of each remaining shell around; join with slip st in top of beginning ch-3.
Rounds 5–7: Repeat Rounds 2–4.
Round 8: Repeat Round 2. Fasten off A.
FINISHING
Weave in ends.
