This lovely stitch is not only visually appealing but perfect for cozy baby blankets, wrapping your little ones in warmth and love. Plus, it’s versatile enough to craft stylish bags that will catch everyone’s eye!

I worked my sample with shells all from the right side. This is not a good idea because the work slants to the left for right handed crocheters and right for left handed crocheters. It’s best to alternate wrong side and right side rows so your crochet piece comes out straight on the sides of rows.

Be careful to work your starting chain loose. If row one is gathering vs. laying flat, you will need to pull it out. When you redo the chain try to chain looser or use a bigger hook just for the starting chain and then switch back to the smaller crochet hook.

If you work this stitch vertically for a blanket (afghan) or a scarf you would just crochet a chain as long as your desired crochet blanket or scarf and then work in long shell stitch rows across until you reach the desired width. If you leave long ends at the ends and beginnings of each row you could fringe the ends and incorporate the long strands into the fringe. Then you wouldn’t have any yarn ends to sew in. That’s a good thing!!!

In the video I show you how to make the fringe and thread in the long yarn ends.

Gather your softest yarn, grab your crochet hook, and let your creativity soar with this simple yet beautiful pattern. Whether you’re making it for yourself, a loved one, or a special occasion, this pattern is sure to impress.

This is great crochet pattern to use up some of your scrap yarns.

Here are some color variation ideas…

White or cream yarn is always good for blending yarn colors together.

What main color do you like using most often for scrap crochet projects?

I love this combination of yarn colors especially for fall.

I just love this color combination for the shell in shell crochet hook. I love how the greens and purples go together.

What color would you use?

Remember, crochet is more than just a hobby—it’s a way to express your love and creativity with each stitch. Let’s embark on this crochet adventure together and create something truly remarkable!

Happy Crocheting
