Required Supplies:
- RED HEART Super Saver: 1 skein each 885 Delft Blue A and 320 Cornmeal B
- Crochet Hook: 5.5 mm [US I-9]
- Yarn needle
NOTES
– Leave a 4” tail for fringe at beginning and end of each row.
– To join at beginning of each row, make a slip knot and place on hook. Work first st as usual.
– When working Adc on wrong side rows, insert hook in front loop of st 1 row below on back side of work (on right side).
Special Abbreviation
Anchored double crochet (Adc): insert hook in both loops of next st and draw up a loop, yo, insert hook in front loop of st 1 row below same st and draw up a loop, yo and draw through 2 loops on hook, yo and draw through all 3 loops on hook
PLACEMAT
With A, ch 59 loosely. Fasten off. Turn.
Row 1 (Right Side): Join A with sc in back bar of last ch made; sc in back bar of each remaining ch across – 59 sc. Fasten off.
Row 2: With wrong side facing, join B with sc in front loop of first st; sc in front loop of each remaining st across. Fasten off.
Row 3: With right side facing join A with Adc in first st made; sc in back loop of next st, Adc in next st made; [sc in back loop of next 5 sts, Adc in next st, sc in back loop of next st, Adc in next st] 7 times – 16 Adc and 43 sc. Fasten off.
Row 4: With wrong side facing, join B with sc in front loop of first st, Adc in next st; [sc in front loop of next 7 sts, Adc in next st] 7 times; sc in front loop of last st – 8 Adc and 51 sc. Fasten off.
Row 5: With right side facing, join A with Adc in first st; [sc in back loop of next st, Adc in next st] 29 times – 30 Adc and 29 sc. Fasten off.
Row 6: With wrong side facing, join B with sc in front loop of first st, sc in front loop of next 4 sts; [Adc in next st, sc in front loop of next 7 sts] 6 times; Adc in next st, sc in front loop of last 5 sts – 7 Adc and 52 sc. Fasten off.
Row 7: With right side facing, join A with Adc in first st, sc in back loop of next 3 sts; [Adc in next st, sc in back loop of next st, Adc in next st, sc in back loop of next 5 sts] 6t imes; Adc in next st, sc in back loop of next st, Adc in next st, sc in back loop of next 3 sts, Adc in last st – 16 Adc and 43 sc. Fasten off.
Row 8: Repeat Row 6.
Row 9: Repeat Row 5.
Row 10: Repeat Row 4.
Rows 11-42: Repeat Rows 3-10, 4 more times.
Rows 43-45: Repeat Rows 3-5.
Row 46: With right side facing, join A with slip st in back loop of first st, slip st in back loop of each remaining st across – 59 slip sts. Fasten off.
FINISHING
Matching row colors, add one strand of fringe to each side of placemat, inserting tails into fringe before tightening. Trim fringe to 1”, or to desired length.
