RED HEART® “Baby Clouds™”: 2 skeins 9322 Creamsicle.Crochet Hooks: 10mm [US N-15] and 6.5mm [US K-10.5].
Yarn needle, four 7/8” buttons, sewing needle and thread.
To Fit Chest: 17 (18, 19, 20)”.
Finished Chest Measurement: 18½ (19½, 20½, 21½)”.
GAUGE: 8 sts = 4”; 8 rows = 4” in sc with larger hook. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.
JACKET
Body (Worked in one piece to underarms)
With larger hook, ch 37 (39, 41, 43).
Row 1 (Right Side): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across; turn – 36 (38, 40, 42) sc.
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc across; turn.
Repeat Row 2 until 3½ (4, 4½, 5)” from beginning, end by working a wrong side row.
Divide for Fronts and Back-Right Front
Ch 1, sc across first 8 (8, 9, 9) sc; turn. Work even for 2½ (3, 3½, 4)”, end by working a wrong side row.
Shape Neck
Slip st in first 3 (3, 4, 4) sc, ch 1, sc in next 5 sc; turn – 5 sc. Work even for 1½”. Armhole should measure 4 (4½, 5, 5½)”. Fasten off.
Back
With right side facing, attach yarn in next st of last long row; ch 1, sc in same st as joining and next 19 (21, 21, 23) sc; turn – 20 (22, 22, 24) sc. Work even until same length as Right Front to shoulder. Fasten off.
Left Front
With right side facing, attach yarn in next st of last long row; ch 1, sc in same st as joining and in each sc to end; turn – 8 (8, 9, 9) sc. Complete to correspond to Right Front, reversing neck shaping.
Sleeves
With larger hook, ch 15. Work in sc same as for Body over 14 sc, shaping sides by inc 1 st each end of every 3rd row until there are 16 (18, 20, 22) sc. Work even until 5 (6½, 7½, 8)” from beginning. Fasten off. With right side facing and smaller hook, work 1 row sc across lower sleeve edge.
FINISHING
Sew shoulder seams. Sew sleeve seams. Set in sleeves.
Neck Edging
With right side facing and smaller hook, attach yarn at right front neck edge; ch 1, work sc evenly to shoulder seam, across back, and down to corner of left neck edge; turn. Work 2 rows even in sc. Fasten off.
Button Band and Lower Edging
Row 1: With right side facing and smaller hook, attach yarn at left front neck edge; ch 1, work sc evenly down edge, 3 sc in corner, work sc across lower edge, 3 sc in corner, and work sc evenly up right front edge; turn.
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc around, working 3 sc in each corner as before; turn.
Buttonhole Row 3 (Work on right front for girls, left front for boys): Mark positions for 4 buttonholes on appropriate front. Working corners as before, ch 1, [sc in each sc to marker, ch 1, skip 1 sc] 4 times, sc in each sc to end. Fasten off. Weave in ends. Sew on buttons to correspond to buttonholes.
