Scarecrow Dishcloth

Skill: Beginner
Size: With Hat – about 12″ wide and 12″ long.
Materials: Worsted Weight Cotton Yarn: Beige – 1½ oz, 75 yd (45 g, 69 m); Grey – 1 oz, 50 yd (30 g, 46 m) Small amounts; Brown, Red and Black
Crochet Hook: Size H-8 (5.00 mm)
JOINING WITH SC
When instructed to join with sc, begin with sl knot on hook, insert hook in st or sp indicated, yo and pull up a loop, yo and draw through both loops on hook.
DISHCLOTH
Rnd 1: (Right Side) Starting in center with Beige, ch 4, sl st in first ch to form ring; ch 3 (counts as first dc now and throughout), 11 dc in ring; join with sl st to first dc. (12 dc) JOIN ALL DC RNDS IN THIS MANNER. DO NOT TURN EACH RND.
Rnd 2: Ch 3, dc in same st as joining, 2 dc in each dc around; join. (24 dc)
Rnd 3: Ch 3, dc in same dc as joining, dc in next dc, (2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc) 11 times; join. (36 dc)
Rnd 4: Ch 3, dc in same dc as joining, dc in next 2 dc, (2 dc in next dc, dc in next 2 dc) 11 times; join. (48 dc)
Rnd 5: Ch 3, dc in same dc as joining, dc in next 3 dc, (2 dc in next dc, dc in next 3 dc) 11 times; join. (60 dc)
Rnd 6: Ch 3, dc in same dc as joining, dc in next 4 dc, (2 dc in next dc, dc in next 4 dc) 11 times; join. (72 dc)
Rnd 7: Ch 3, dc in same dc as joining, dc in next 5 dc, (2 dc in next dc, dc in next 5 dc) 11 times; join. (84 dc) DO NOT FINISH OFF.
Collar
Row 1: Ch 4, DO NOT TURN (right side facing), 2 tr in same dc as joining, [3 tr in next dc] 16 times. (51 tr) Finish off and weave in ends.
HAT
Row 1: With Grey, starting at top of hat, ch 4, 5 dc in 4th ch from hook. (6 dc)
Rows 2-9: Ch 3, turn, 2 hdc in 1st st, hdc across to last st, (hdc, dc) in last st. (9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30 sts)
Row 9: Ch 3, turn, 2 dc in 1st st, dc, [2 dc in next st, dc in next st] across to last st, 3 dc in last st. (46 sts) DO NOT FINISH OFF.
Edging: Ch 1, turn, sc along sides of rows, 3 sc in ch-lp at top of Hat, sc along sides of rows; join with sl st to 1st sc. Finish off leaving long end.
EYES (Make 2)
Rnd 1: Starting at center, with Black, ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook; join with sl st to first sc. Finish off leaving long end.
MOUTH
With Brown, ** ch 1 (center ch), * ch 3, sl st in 2nd and 3rd ch from hook and in center ch, rep from * once more, ** ch 18, rep from ** to **. Finish off leaving long end.
NOSE
Row 1: With Red, ch 4, 2 dc in 4th ch from hook. (3 dc)
Row 2: Ch 3, turn, 2 dc in next 2 dc. (5 dc) Finish off leaving long end.
NECK TIE (Make 2)
With right side of Dishcloth facing, join Brown with sl st to same dc as 1st st of collar, ch 30. Finish off and weave in ends. Rep on other side of collar in same dc as last tr.
Finishing USE PHOTO AS A GUIDE
– With right sides facing, position Hat and sew onto Dishcloth.
– Using long ends, position and sew Eyes, Nose and Mouth to Dishcloth.
– Weave each end of Necktie through Rnd 7 to meet in middle and tie in bow.
