Ruffles-to-Crochet Boot Toppers

RED HEART® Soft®: 1 ball of 9010 Charcoal or 9851 Royal Blue A and
RED HEART® Boutique Sashay®: 1 ball of 1936 Waltz or 1870 Blue B
Susan Bates® Crochet Hook: 5 mm [US H-8]
Yarn needle, sewing needle and matching thread.
Directions are for size small; changes for medium and large are in parentheses.
Finished Size: 9 (11½,14)” (23 (29,35.5) cm) circumference x 8” (20.5 cm) long, unstretched
GAUGE: 17 sts = 4” (10 cm); 16 rows = 4” (10 cm) in pattern. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.
BOOT TOPPER (Make 2)
With A, ch 21.
Row 1 (Right side): Sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across: 20 sc.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across in back loop only.
Rows 3-40 (50, 60): Repeat Row 2, at the end of Row 40(50,60) fasten off, leaving a long end for sewing.
With A, ch 21.
Row 1 (Right side): Sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across: 20 sc.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across in back loop only.
Rows 3-40 (50, 60): Repeat Row 2, at the end of Row 40(50,60) fasten off, leaving a long end for sewing.
FINISHING
Thread yarn needle with long end. With wrong sides together, sew Row 40 (50, 60) to foundation ch.

RUFFLE
Yarn Note: Stretch one end of B open for 10” (25.5 cm) and lay flat, with the edge with the metallic thread at the bottom. Work stitches into the top two mesh loop threads of the yarn, leaving the metallic edge loose to form Ruffle. With right side of Boot Topper facing, join eighth mesh loop of B with slip st in end of row.

Round 2: *Skip next mesh loop, insert hook into next sc and next mesh loop, skip next mesh loop, Yo and pull through 2 loops on hook; repeat from * around; join with slip st to first sc.
Round 3: Repeat Round 2, fasten off.
Round 2: *Skip next mesh loop, insert hook into next sc and next mesh loop, skip next mesh loop, Yo and pull through 2 loops on hook; repeat from * around; join with slip st to first sc.
Round 3: Repeat Round 2, fasten off.
FINISHING
Thread sewing needle with matching thread. With wrong side of Ruffle facing, sew ends of B together and tack to inside of Boot Topper.
