Free Crochet Pattern – Pansy Doily

The pansy is a delicate looking, beautiful flower.  The pansy is quite durable and a “flower for all seasons.”  Pansies are growing in gardens during the winter and spring in the South or Southwest United States and during the summer in the North. The fragrant and edible bloomsare a gorgeous addition in gardens.  Pansies are very easy to grow making them a very popular addition to any garden. Whether grown from seed or bedding plants, pansies are relatively disease and pest free blooming prolifically for the gardener’s enjoyment.

Size: About 14 inches diameter

Materials: Size 10 Crochet Thread: White, Shaded Pinks and Green

Crochet Hook:Size 7 (1.65 mm)

JOINING WITH SC

When instructed to join with sc, begin with sl knot on hook, insert hook in st or sp indicated, yo and pull up a loop, yo and draw through both loops on hook.

DOILY

Rnd 1: (Right Side) Starting at center, with White, ch 6, join with sl st to first ch to form ring, ch 5 (counts as first dc and ch 2), dc in ring, * ch 2, dc in ring; rep from * 5 times, ch 2; join with sl st to first dc. (8 spokes)

Rnd 2: Ch 1, 3 sc in each ch-2 sp; join with sl st to first sc. (24 sc.)

Rnd 3: Ch 3 (counts as first dc now and through-out), dc in next 2 sc, ch 2, * dc in next 3 sc, ch 2; rep from * around; join.

Rnd 4: Ch 3, dc in same st as joining, dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc, ch 2, * 2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc, ch 2; rep from * around; join.

Rnd 5: Ch 3, dc in same st as joining, dc in next 3 dc, 2 dc in next dc, ch 2, * 2 dc in next dc, dc in next 3 dc, 2 dc in next dc, ch 2; rep from * around; join.

Rnd. 6: ch3, dc in same st as joining, dc in next 2 dc, ch1, skip next dc, dc in next 2 dc, 2dc in next dc, ch2, *2dc in next dc, dc in next 2dc, ch1, skip next dc, dc in next 2 dc, 2dc in next dc, ch2*, repeat from *to* around.

PANSIES (Make 16)

Rnd 1: (Right Side) Starting at center, with Pansy color, ch 7, join with sl st to first ch to form a ring; ch 3 (counts as first dc now and throughout), 2 dc in ring, ch 7, * 3 dc in ring, ch 7; rep from * 3 times more; join. (5 ch-7 sps)

Rnd 2: Sl st to ch-7 sp, ch 3, 15 dc in same sp, sc in center dc of 3-dc group, * 16 dc in next ch-7 sp, sc in center dc of next 3-dc group; rep from * once more (3 petals), ch 4, dtr in next ch-7 sp, (ch 1, dtr)11 times in same sp, (ch 1, tr) twice in same sp, (ch 1, dc) twice in same sp, sc in center dc of next 3-dc group, (dc, ch 1) twice in next ch-7 sp, (ch 1, tr) twice in same sp, (ch 1, dtr) 12 times in same sp, ch 4, sc in center dc of 3-dc group; join with sl st to first dc. Finish off and weave in ends.

Joining Pansies together

Rnd 1: When all Pansies are complete, with right sides facing, working only in large petals, on any Pansy, join White with sl st to sc between large petals, * (ch 3, sc in next ch-1 sp) 14 times, ch 3, sc in ch-4 sp of same Pansy, sc in ch-4 sp of large petal of next Pansy; rep from ( to ) once, sl st in sc between petals; rep from * around, until all Pansies are joined.

Joining Pansies to Doily

Rnd 1: With wrong side of Doily facing, join Blue with sc to any single dc (worked in ch-2 sp), ch 6, working in wrong side of Pansies, sc between the 12th and 13th dc of first small petal, ch 6, working through both thicknesses, sc in center dc of middle small petal and center of shell on doily, ch 6, working in Pansy, sc between 4th and 5th dc of next petal, ch 6, working in doily, * sc in next single dc, ch 6, working in wrong side of next Pansy, sc between the 12th and 13th dc of first small petal, ch 6, working through both thicknesses, sc in center dc of middle small petal and center of shell on doily, ch 6, working in Pansy, sc between 4th and 5th dc of next petal, ch 6; rep from * around. Finish off and weave in ends.

    These patterns sure bring back memories. I still have all these old books.If they are classified “Vintage” guess that makes me vintage, too. LOL

    This is a beautiful doily. I love pansies and crocheting doilies, so I think I’ll make this just for me! I appreciate that this pattern was very easy to print and didn’t waste a bunch of paper in the printing. Thanks!
