DIRECTIONS FOR STARCHING

STARCH: Dissolve ¼ cup starch in cup of cold water. Boil about 1¼ cups of water, remove from flame, then slowly stir the starch mixture into boiling water stirring constantly.

Place back on flame until it thickens.

As soon as starch is cool enough to handle, dip doily and squeeze starch through it thoroughly, Wring out extra starch. The doily shouldbe wet with starch but there should be none in the spaces. Pin center and outer edge of doily in position according to size. Pull folds of ruffle in position. Place a lily in every 4th fold of ruffle as illustrated and leave until thoroughly dry. Lilies can be sewed in position if desired.

I’m having a little trouble with the “Calla Lilly Doily”…
    https://bestfreecrochet.com/2010/10/31/calla-lily-doily-free-crochet-pattern/

Rnd 7: With right side facing, join Green with sc to any lp of Rnd 6, sc in same lp, ch 6, (sc, ch 3, sc) in next lp, ch 6, * 2 sc in next lp, ch 6, (sc, ch 3, sc) in next lp, ch 6; rep from * around; join with sl st to first sc. Finish off and weave in ends.
Rnd 8: With right side facing, join White with sl st to any ch-3 sp, ch 3 (counts as first dc now and throughout), (dc, ch 3, dc) in same sp, ch 3, sc in next lp, ch 5, sc in next lp, ch 3, * Shell in next lp, ch 3, sc in next lp, ch 5, sc in next lp, ch 3; rep from * around; join with sl st to first dc.

My problem is there is not enough loops made in 7 to follow the directions of round 8…is it me or is there a problem with the pattern?

    admin 12 years ago Reply

    Hi Connie,

Rounds 2-6 should all have 16 loops. At the end of Round 7, you should
have 16 ch-5 loops and 8 ch-3 loops. Then Round 8 should have 8 shells.
Each shell will have been worked in a ch-3 loop. You should also have 8
    ch-5 loops and 16 ch-3 loops.

There is one correction needed; On Round 8 (at the very beginning of the
round), after joining the white thread, it should tell you to ch3
(counts as 1st dc now and throughout), (dc, ch3, 2 dc) in same sp. The
original instructions say (dc, ch3, dc) in same sp.

Please let me know if this is not helpful. I will be glad to try to
    explain it differently.
