Round Rug – Free Crochet Pattern

Now here is a great eco friendly way to use all that extra scrap yarn you have sitting around.  This easy to make round rug is made by crocheting with a double strand of rug yarn and a large J crochet hook. Lay out all your scrap yarn and plan your color combination.  If you like what you see in your color palate, you will love it in your finished handmade rug.

Skill: Easy

Size: About 33 inches in diameter without Fringe

Materials: AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY “AUNT LYDIA’S” HEAVY RUG YARN: 6 skeins Black, 3 skeins each Light Yellow, Red and Turquoise, 2 skeins each Lilac, Dark Rose and Bronze Gold, 4 skeins Dark Green.

Note: Rug is worked using double strand of yarn throughout.

Crochet Hook: Size J-10 (6.00 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge.

JOINING WITH SC

When instructed to join with sc, begin with sl knot on hook, insert hook in st or sp indicated, yo and pull up a loop, yo and draw through both loops on hook.

TO CHANGE COLORS

Work last stitch before color change to last step, with new color yo and pull new color through remaining loops on hook. Drop unused color to wrong side. Do not work over unused color.

RUG

Rnd 1: (Right Side) Starting at center, with Green, ch 3, 8 sc in 3^rd ch from hook; join with sl st to first sc. (8 sc)

Rnds 2-3: Ch 1, 2 sc in each sc around; join. (16, 32 sc)

Rnd 4: Ch 1, sc in each sc around; join. Finish off Green and weave in ends.

Note: Always start new color round in a different place so no joining shows on rug.

Rnd 5: With right side facing, join Black with sc to any sc, 2 sc in next sc (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) around; join. Finish off Black and weave in ends. (48 sc)

Rnd 6: With right side facing, join Yellow with sc to any sc, (sc in next sc) around; join. Finish off and weave in ends. (48 sc)

Rnd 7: With right side facing, join Black with sc to any sc, sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc (sc in next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around; join. Finish off and weave in ends. (56 sc)

Rnd 8: With right side facing, join Green with sc to any sc, sc in next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc (sc in next 6 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around; join. Finish off and weave in ends. (64 sc)

Rnd 9: With right side facing, join Red with sc to any sc, sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc (sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around; join. Finish off and weave in ends. (80 sc)

Rnd 10: With right side facing, join Lilac with sc to any sc, (sc in next sc) around; join. Finish off and weave in ends. (80 sc)

Rnd 11: With right side facing, join Red with sc to any sc, sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc (sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around; join. Finish off and weave in ends. (100 sc)

Rnd 12: With right side facing, join Black with sc to any sc, (sc in next sc) around; join. Finish off and weave in ends. (100 sc)

Rnd 13: With right side facing, join Turquoise with sc to any sc, (sc in next sc) around; join. Finish off and weave in ends. (100 sc)

Rnd 14: With right side facing, join Black with sc to any sc, (sc in next sc) around; join. Finish off and weave in ends. (100 sc)

Rnd 15: With right side facing, join Turquoise with sc to any sc, (sc in next sc) around; join. Finish off and weave in ends. (100 sc)

Rnd 16: With right side facing, join Yellow with sc to any sc, (sc in next sc) around; join. Finish off and weave in ends. (100 sc)

Rnd 17: With right side facing, join Dark Rose with sc to any sc, sc in next 8 sc, 2 sc in next sc (sc in next 9 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around; join. Finish off and weave in ends. (110 sc)

Rnd 18: With right side facing, join Black with sc to any sc, sc in next 8 sc, 2 sc in next sc (sc in next 9 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around; join. Finish off and weave in ends. (121 sc)

Rnd 19: With right side facing, join Bronze Gold with sc to any sc, (sc in next sc) around; join. Finish off and weave in ends. (121 sc)

Rnd 20: With right side facing, join Green with sc to any sc, sc in next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc (sc in next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around; join. (141 sc)

Rnd 21: Ch 1, sc in each sc around; join. Finish off and weave in ends.

Continue rounds, increasing as necessary to keep work flat.

Rnd 23: Yellow

Rnd 24: Black

Rnd 25: Green

Rnd 26: Red

Rnd 27: Lilac

Rnd 28: Red

Rnd 29: Black

Rnd 30: Turquoise

Rnd 31: Black

Rnd 32: Turquoise

Rnd 33: Yellow

Rnd 34: Rose

Rnd 35: Black

Rnd 36: Bronze Gold

Rnd 37: Green

At the end of Rnd 37, finish off and weave in ends.

FRINGE

Wind all colors over a 5 inch cardboard, cut one end. Using 3 strands for each fringe, double in half and knot through each sc around entire rug arranging colors as desired.
