There’s no need to spend hundreds of dollars on the perfect tote bag when you can crochet this one! This clever bag is crocheted in the round using jumbo weight yarn, so you’ll have time to make it in an array of colors, or to give as gifts!
Materials:
RED HEART® Grande™: 3 balls 402 Foggy
Susan Bates® Crochet Hook: 11.5mm [US P-16]
Stitch markers
Yarn needle
Gauge/Tension: GAUGE: 7 sc = 4” [10 cm]; 8 rows = 4” [10 cm] in single crochet. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.
Tote measures 12½” [32 cm] long x 27½” [70 cm] circumference.
Note
Piece is worked in continuous rounds.
TOTE
Ch 2.
Round 1: Work 6 sc in first ch. Place marker in first st for beginning of round. Move marker up as each round is completed.
Round 2: Working in continuous rounds, 2 sc in each st around – 12 sts.
Round 3: *2 sc in next st, sc in next st; repeat from * around – 18 sts.
Round 4: *2 sc in next st, sc in next 2 sts; repeat from * around – 24 sts.
Round 5: *2 sc in next st, sc in next 3 sts; repeat from * around – 30 sts.
Round 6: *2 sc in next st, sc in next 4 sts; repeat from * around – 36 sts.
Round 7: *2 sc in next st, sc in next 5 sts; repeat from * around – 42 sts.
Round 8: *2 sc in next st, sc in next 6 sts; repeat from * around – 48 sts.
Rounds 9-20: Sc in each st around.
Shape Handles
Round 21: Sc in first 7 sts, ch 14, skip next 10 sts, sc in next 14 sts, ch 14, skip next 10 sts, sc in last 7 sts – 56 sts.
Round 22: Work sc in each st and ch around – 56 sc.
Round 23: Sc in each st around.
Fasten off.
FINISHING
