Dress your 18” doll for her debutante ball in this beautifully ruffled gown. Crochet the dress first and then add the Sassy Fabric ruffles around the neck and hemline. Oh so elegant!

Susan Bates® Crochet Hook: 4mm [US G-6]

Yarn needle

Stitch markers

Three ½” (12mm) shank buttons, sewing thread, sewing needle

Gauge/Tension:     GAUGE: 17 hdc = 4” (10 cm); Rows 1-13 in pattern = 4” (10 cm). CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.

Dress fits 18” (45.5 cm) tall doll. Dress from Neck to bottom edge measures 15” (38 cm). Skirt circumference measures 30” (76 cm).

1. Beginning ch-1 does not count as a stitch.

2. Beginning ch-2 counts as a dc unless otherwise noted.

Row 1 (Right Side): Hdc in 2nd ch from hook and next ch, [2 hdc in next ch, hdc in next 2 ch] 10 times, 2 hdc in last ch; turn—44 hdc.

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each hdc across; turn— 44 sc.

Row 3: Ch 2, dc in next 3 sc, 2 dc in next sc, [dc in next 4 sc, 2 dc in next sc] 7 times, dc in last 4 sc; turn—52 dc.

Row 4: Ch 1, sc in each dc across, working last sc in top of ch-2; turn—52 sc.

Row 5: Ch 1, [hdc in next 7 sc, 2 hdc in next sc] 6 times, hdc in last 4 sc; turn—58 hdc.

Back Overlap

With Right Side facing, join A in top right corner of opening; ch 2, working down side of opening, dc evenly across this side only; fasten off.

RUFFLES

Note: Ruffles are worked into the spaces between the vertical posts of stitches with the Right Side of the Dress facing, holding the Yoke at the top, and with the Right Side of B facing.

Neck Ruffle

Leave a 3” (7.5 cm) tail on B; insert hook in next hole on B and between sts of top left corner of Row 1 of the Yoke; holding a new strand of A underneath, pull loop of A through both layers to top, [insert hook in next loop of B and through next space between sts of Row 1, pull loop of A through all layers] across; fasten off A. Cut B,

leaving a 3” (7.5 cm) tail.

Skirt Ruffles (Make 4)

With stitch markers, mark Round 22, Round 18, Round 14, and Round 10 of the Skirt.

Leave a 3” (7.5 cm) tail on B, insert hook in next hole on B and between sts of Round 22; holding a new strand of A underneath, pull loop of A through both layers to top, [insert hook in next loop of B, skip 2 sts of Round 22, insert hook through next space between sts of Round 22, pull loop of A loosely through all layers] across; fasten off A. Cut B, leaving a 3” (7.5 cm) tail.

Repeat on marked rounds, working from the bottom up.

FINISHING

Roll under each end of B and tack down with needle and thread. Weave in all ends of A. Evenly space 3 buttons under Overlap on left side of opening, using spaces between stitches of Overlap as buttonholes; sew buttons in place. Block, stretching skirt lengthwise.
