Comfort baby with this sweet crocheted lovey that is looped through an easy-tohold ring. This yarn has been tested and certified free from harmful levels of over 300 substances. Look for the tested mark with the blue heart on the ball band.

Materials:

RED HEART® Baby Hugs™ Light: 1 ball 3258 Peachie

Susan Bates® Crochet Hook: 5mm [US H-8]

Stitch markers

Yarn needle

3” [8 cm] Natural Beeswax Maple Wooden Ring

Gauge/Tension:     15 sc = 4” [10 cm]; 18 rows = 4” [10 cm] in single crochet. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.

Lovey measures 10” [25.5 cm] from top of wooden ring to lower edge.

NOTE

Lovey is worked in joined rounds.

Finished Lovey is knotted on to wooden ring.

SPECIAL ABBREVIATIONS

hdc3tog: [Yarn over, insert hook in next stitch, yarn over and pull up loop] 3 times, yarn over and draw through all loops on hook.

sc2tog: [Draw up a loop in next st] twice, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook.

LOVEY

Ch 42, slip st in first ch to form a ring, taking care not to twist sts.

Round 1: Ch 2 (counts as hdc here and throughout), hdc in each st around, slip st in top of ch-2 to join – 42 hdc.

Round 2: Ch 1 (does not count as stitch here and throughout), *hdc3tog, ch 1; repeat from * around, slip st in first st – 14 hdc3tog.

Round 3: Ch 1, *sc in hdc3tog, ch 1; repeat from * around, slip st in first sc – 14 sc.

Rounds 4-15: Ch 1, *sc in next sc, ch 1; repeat from * around, slip st in first sc – 14 sc.

Round 16: Ch 1, sc2tog, ch 1, *sc in next sc, ch 1; repeat from * around, slip st in first sc – 13 sc.

Round 17: Ch 1, *sc in next sc, ch 1; repeat from * around, slip st in first sc – 13 sc.

Rounds 18-19: Repeat Rounds 16-17 – 12 sc.

Rounds 20-21: Repeat Rounds 16-17 – 11 sc.

Rounds 42-43: Repeat Rounds 40-41 – 11 sc.

Rounds 44-45: Repeat Rounds 40-41 – 12 sc.

Rounds 46-47: Repeat Rounds 40-41 – 13 sc.

Rounds 48-49: Repeat Rounds 40-41 – 14 sc.

Rounds 50-62: Ch 1, *sc in next sc, ch 1; repeat from * around, slip st in first sc – 14 sc.

Round 63: Ch 2, 2 hdc in same st, *3 hdc in each sc around, slip st in top of ch-2 – 42 sts.

Round 64: Ch 2, hdc in each st around, slip st in top of ch-2 – 42 hdc.

Fasten off.

FINISHING

Weave in ends.

Fold piece in half, lining up short ends, and insert folded end through center of wooden ring. Pull short ends through folded end and pull to tighten, securing piece around ring.

Remove ring for washing.
