The Loop Stitch Granny Afghan offers a whole new twist on the granny square! A loop stitch flower is worked in the middle rounds. The flower is then surrounded by rounds of granny square stitches. It really is a very clever idea. Each square measures 5” across. After crocheting 48 square you sew them together to create your beautiful masterpiece. Think about using your scrap yarn for an eco-friendly version of this charming afghan.

Special Stitches
Double Loop Stitch (dlp): Loop stitch is a variation of single crochet and is usually worked on ‘wrong side’ rows because the loops form at the back of the fabric.
Insert hook through lps on finger following direction indicated by arrow (see Fig. 1), being careful to hook all loops (see Fig. 2), draw through st pulling each lp to measure approximately 1”, remove finger from lp, yo and draw through all lps on hook.

Thank you for this pattern. It is just what I have been looking for, something a little bit different to make a rug for a friend who has made patchwork blankets for each of my four grandchildren as they were born. This is going to be just a bit unique and will use up some of my scrap wool at the same time. I will be working on it over our long hot summer.
