The stitch I used for this dishcloth has always been one of my favorites. Years ago before I knew how to design crochet patterns, I bought a sewing pattern. I followed the shaping of the pattern exactly to create a little green sweater for my 12 month old son. It is so cute with a little hood. I never wrote the pattern because the way I did it would be too hard to explain. The single crochet stitches are worked in the chain 1 spaces so it ends up looking a little like a knitted piece.

Size: About 8” square
Materials: Worsted Weight Cotton Yarn: Light Blue (A) – 1½ oz, 75 yd (45 g, 68 yd); White (B) – ½ oz, 25 yd (15 g, 23 yd); Dark Blue (C) – 1 oz, 50 yds (30 g, 45 m) (Sugar ‘n Cream – Blue Haze, White, Blue Jeans)
Crochet Hook: Size H-8 (5.00 mm)
JOINING WITH SC
When instructed to join with sc, begin with sl knot on hook, insert hook in st or sp indicated, yo and pull up a loop, yo and draw through both loops on hook.
DISHCLOTH
Row 1: (Right Side) With Color A, ch 30, sc in 2nd ch from hook, * ch 1, skip next ch, sc in next ch; rep from * across. (15 sc and 14 ch-1 sps)
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in first sc, * sc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, skip next sc; rep from * across, ending with sc in next ch-1 sp, sc in last sc. (16 sc and 13 ch-1 sps)
Row 3: Ch 1, turn, sc in first sc, * ch 1, skip next sc, sc in next ch-1 sp; rep from * across, ending with ch 1, skip next sc, sc in last sc. (15 sc and 14 ch-1 sps)
Rows 4-29: Following color sequence, rep Rows 2-3.
Rows 1-5 – Color A
Row 6 – Color B
Row 7-11 – Color C
Row 12 – Color B
Row 13-17 – Color A
Row 18 – Color B
Row 19-23 – Color C
Row 24 – Color B
Row 25-29 – Color A
At the end of Row 29, finish off and weave in ends.
Edging
Rnd 1: With right side facing, join B with sc to first sc, 2 sc in same sc, sc in next ch-1 sp, [sc in next sc, sc in next ch-1 sp] across to last sc, 3 sc in last sc; * working in sides of rows, evenly work 20 sc *; working in unused lps of starting ch, 3 sc in first ch, [sc in next ch] across to last ch, 3 sc in last ch; rep from * to * once; join with sl st to first sc. Finish off and weave in ends.
Rnd 2: With right side facing, join A with sc to center sc of any 3-sc group, 2 sc in same sc, * sc in next sc, [ch 1, skip next sc, sc in next sc] across to center sc of corner 3-sc group, 3 sc in corner sc; rep from * around, omitting last corner in final repeat; join. Finish off and weave in ends.
