Gold Flower Christmas Ornament – Free Crochet Pattern

During the Christmas season, cheerful decorations magically transform our surroundings into a magical winter wonderland.  You can create a flurry of snowflakes to decorate your tree, Christmas gift packages or to spruce up your windows.   Your festive home décor will brighten up even the coldest dreary days of winter.

The Gold Flower Christmas Ornament is crocheted using crochet cotton thread and a steel crochet hook.  You will find them quick and easy to create several for family and friends for the holiday.

Skill: Easy

Size: About 4″ round

Materials: Size 10 Crochet Cotton: Gold Metallic(G) – 15 yards and White(W) – 15 yards.

Crochet Hook: Steel 7 (1.65 mm)

JOINING WITH SC

When instructed to join with sc, begin with sl knot on hook, insert hook in st or sp indicated, yo and pull up a loop, yo and draw through both loops on hook.

General Starching Directions

Cut a piece of cardboard larger than the article to be stiffened. Cover the cardboard with clear plastic wrap.

Lay the article on the plastic, stretch out and pin into the correct shape.

Generously spray with heavy spray starch. Allow to dry completely.

This method allows for washing and re-starching whenever necessary.

CIRCLE PIECE

Rnd 1: (Right Side) Starting at center, with White, ch 8, sl st in first ch to form ring; ch 4 (counts as first dc and ch 1), (dc, ch 1) 17 times in ring; join with sl st to first sc. (18 ch-1 sps)

DO NOT TURN EACH ROUND.

Rnd 2: Sl st in ch-1 sp, ch 1, sc in same sp, (ch 3, sc in next ch-1 sp) around, ending with ch 1, hdc in first sc (forms last lp and positions thread for next rnd). (18 ch-3 lps)

Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in same lp as joining, (ch 4, sc in next lp) around, ending with ch 1, dc in first sc (forms last lp and positions thread for next rnd). (18 ch-4 lps)

Rnd 4: Ch 1, sc in same lp as joining, (ch 5, sc in next lp) around, ending with ch 2, dc in first sc. (18 ch-5 lps)

Rnd 5: Ch 1, sc in same lp as joining, (ch 6, sc in next lp) around, end; ch 2, dc in first sc.  (18 ch-6 lps) Finish off White and weave in ends.

FLOWER

Rnd 1: (Right Side) Starting at center, with Gold, ch 6, sl st in first ch to form ring; ch 1, (sc in ring, ch 4) 6 times; join with sl st to first sc. (6 ch-4 lps)

DO NOT TURN EACH ROUND.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, (sc, 7 dc, sc) in each ch-4 lp around; join. Finish off leaving long end.

Finishing

– Using long end, sew Flower to Rnd 1 of Circle Piece.

– Starch into a 4-inch circle using general starching directions.
