#133 Red Hat Happy Hooker Crochet Dishcloth – Maggie Weldon Maggies Crochet

Crochet Designer Linda K. Kayle wrote: “I took your challenge, because – I like working Out Side the BOX. So I hope you pick ME and my Red Hat Dishcloth.

This is the story of Linda and the Red Hat…

I’ve been a Red Hat Lady going on five years. My BEST FRIEND Teresa, talked me into going to meeting, and then forming our own Chapter. We needed a name.  Her husband Paul had been calling us “The Hookers” for years, just because, we both love to Crochet – a lot!  Paul was the one who came up with our name. One day out of the blue he said: “I have the perfect name for you girls – the “RED HAT HAPPY HOOKERS”.” So I made this dishcloth to Honor my BEST FRIEND Teresa Horky.

Just to let you know, I taught myself to crochet back in high school at good old Yuma Union High – in Yuma Az. I was in class of 1967.

My most favorite project is making Outfits for Cabbage Patch Dolls (I still have not grow-ed up, and I’m 62). I have changed many of the patterns over the past few years. I get used dolls, from friends and thrift stores. Each doll gets a new crochet outfit. Then I give them away at Christmas. I’ve been doing this for many years. Talk about having FUN!After making the outfits, I then get to play with the Dolls.  Sometimes I want to keep them, but I have to tell myself – no, they need to go to a new home. So they too can have lots of Love-en and Fun.

Linda – I am so happy that you entered our Dishcloth-a-Day Challenge.  Thank you for your lovely Red Hat Dishcloth and your wonderful story.  I am sure many other “Happy Hookers” will enjoy your design.

Follow me onto dishcloth # 134 and the rest of the story…

Finishing – use photo as guide

– Using yarn needle, weave short tail into back of Flower.

– Add yarn needle to long tail end. Start rolling to form a center bud. Turn over so that the wrong side is facing YOU. Keep going in a circle making sure that the flower is even and fanning out (in layers).

– Insert needle in middle of flower (in front), bring the tail to the back of the flower. Sew the tail from one side to the other side, going through the middle (making sure you are catching all the layers). Do this all around the back of the flower.

– You should still have enough tail left for putting your flower on your hat / or project. Now sew the flower to the hat or “what ever” you want. You are done.

I there a way to get the pattern to print out in a larger font? I’ve tried twice and both have very small print, which is going to be a challenge for me 69 year old eyes. I may have to use a magnifying glass.

Okay ~ an update !!! I made mine strickly according to the instructions. I made a second one ~ to be used as a hot pad ~ by making two of the hat body, crocheting them together, then adding the flower and trim. I made a THIRD one using double strands of yarn. The second one is much softer than the third one. Since I couldn’t find the Sugar ‘n Cream yarn in the red and/or purple, I used Red Heart Sport yarn in Cherry Red for the hat and Caron Simply Soft in Plum Wine for the trim and flower. Although I don’t think the yarn will make them good dishcloths, they certainly make beautiful hot pads! And of course mine will be part of my afghan ~~ eventually. Thanks, Linda K. Kayle, for such a lovely and FUN creation !!
