RED HEART® “Super Saver”: 1 skein 319 Cherry Red A, 2 skeins 312 Black B.Crochet Hook: 6mm [US J-10].
Board measures 22″ x 22″.

GAUGE: 8 sts = 2.5″, 14 rows = 4″.  CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.

GAME
Strip 1 (make 4)
With A ch 9.
Row 1 (right side):
Sc in 2nd ch from hook, and in each ch across; turn – 8 sc.
Row 2:
Ch 1, sc in each st across; turn. Repeat Row 2 until there are 8 rows, change to B repeat row 2 with B until there are 8 rows, change to A, change colors every 8 rows until there are 8 blocks.
Strip 2 (make 4)
With B ch 9.
Row 1 (right side):
Sc in 2nd ch from hook, and in each ch across; turn – 8 sc.
Row 2:
Ch 1, sc in each st across; turn. Repeat Row 2 until there are 8 rows, change to A repeat row 2 with A until there are 8 rows, change to B, change colors every 8 rows until there are 8 blocks.
Sew strips together alternately, sc in each st and row end around working 3 sc in each corner.
BACK
With B, ch 65. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across.
Row 2:
ch 1, sc in each sc across; turn. Repeat row 2 until there are 32 rows.
Next Row:
ch 1, sc in first 16 sts, ch 32, skip next 32 sts, sc in last 16 sts; turn.
Next Row:
ch 1, sc in first 16 sts, sc in each of next 32 ch, sc in last 16 sts; turn.
Repeat row 2 for 30 more rows. Sc in each st and row end around working 3 sc in each corner for same number of sts as board.
FINISHING
Holding front and back pieces with wrong sides together, and working through all 4 loops, sc in each st around working 3 sc in each corner for two rnds.
CHECKERS (make 12 with A and 12 with B)
Ch 4, work 13 dc in 1st ch, join with a slip st to top of beginning ch-4, Fasten off. Weave in ends.
