Baby Doll Green Shell Afghan

Delight your little ones with a special afghan crocheted just for their baby dolls.  This miniature Shell Afghan is so quick and easy to crochet using sport weight yarn you will want to make several to give away as gifts.  Imagine these little heiloom treasures made in a rainbow of colors to match all of the dolls outfits or the seasons and holidays.

This free crochet pattern is worked in sport weight yarn but you could crochet it using two strands of crochet cotton thread size 10 held together as one strand.

Skill: Easy

Size: About 9 inches by 12 inches.

Materials: Sport Weight Yarn:

Green (G) – 2 oz

White (W) – ½ oz

Yarn Needle;

Crochet Hook: Size F-5 (3.75 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge.

Gauge: 3 Shells = 2 inches; 5 rows = 2 inches

JOINING WITH SC

When instructed to join with sc, begin with sl knot on hook, insert hook in st or sp indicated, yo and pull up a loop, yo and draw through both loops on hook.

Special Stitches

Shell: (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in specified st or sp.

AFGHAN

Row 1: (Right Side) Starting at bottom, with Green, ch 60, Shell in  7th ch from hook (skipped ch counts as first dc and ch 3), * skip next 3 ch, Shell in next ch; rep from * across, ending with skip 2 ch, dc in last ch. (11 Shells)

Rows 2-3: Ch 3, turn, Shell in each Shell across, ending with dc in last dc.

At the end of Row 3, finish off Green and weave in ends.

Pattern Rows

Row 4: With right side facing, join W with sl st to first dc, ch 3, Shell in each Shell across, ending with dc in last dc. Finish off and weave in ends.

Row 5: With right side facing, join G with sl st to first dc, ch 3, Shell in each Shell across, ending with dc in last dc. Finish off and weave in ends.

Rows 6-8: Rep Pattern Rows 4-5 once, and Pattern Row 4 once more.

Row 9: With right side facing, join G with sl st to first dc, ch 3, Shell in each Shell across, ending with dc in last dc.

Rows 10-21: Ch 3, turn, Shell in each Shell across, ending with dc in last dc.

At the end of Row 21, finish off Green and weave in ends.

Rows 22-27: Rep Rows 4-9.

Rows 28-30: Ch 3, turn, Shell in each Shell across, ending with dc in last dc. DO NOT FINISH OFF.

Afghan Border

Rnd 1: With G, ch 3, DO NOT TURN, ** working in sides of rows, (3 sc over next dc, 2 sc over next dc) across **, working in unused lps of starting ch, ch 3, (Shell in ch opposite Shell of Row 1) across, ending with skip next 2 ch, dc in last ch; rep from ** to ** once; join with sl st to first dc. Finish off and weave in ends.
